The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has called on party members nationwide to boycott the upcoming national convention scheduled in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Wike-aligned faction cited a new court ruling as having invalidated the convention process. The development follows a legal suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, which, according to the faction, has created fresh legal uncertainty surrounding the event.
Speaking to Vanguard, Acting National Youth Leader of the faction, Timothy Osadolor, stressed that the party cannot legitimately proceed with the Ibadan gathering until internal disputes are resolved and stakeholders agree on the next steps.
“Well, I’ve told you before. What they are doing in Ibadan is just an early Christmas party. But even that is not going to hold,” Osadolor said.
He added that the court ruling on Tuesday further undermined the convention’s credibility. “The court pronouncements from the suit filed by former governor Sule Lamido have shown that the so-called early Christmas party is not properly constituted or organised,” he said.
Osadolor urged PDP members across the country not to travel or spend money attending an exercise he described as lacking both legal and organisational foundation.
