Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has strongly criticized the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
In a move announced on Tuesday, Tinubu suspended Rivers State Governor Similayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the House of Assembly for six months. He then appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas as the state’s sole administrator.
Reacting in his biweekly newsletter, The Business of Governance Issue 110, published Thursday evening, Makinde denounced the decision as an illegal act that undermines democracy. He urged Nigerians to stand against what he described as a dangerous precedent.
