The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised the newly sworn-in Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, against launching a probe into the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
Wike, who gave the counsel during a visit to Benin City, said in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, that pursuing a probe would serve little purpose and could distract the new administration from the urgent task of governance and development.
Acknowledging his own strained relationship with Obaseki, the former Rivers State Governor said he would have been the first to back any investigation, but stressed that such actions are often unproductive.
“If there is someone who would have encouraged Okpebholo to probe and prosecute Obaseki, that person should be me,” Wike stated, adding that moving forward would better serve the interests of the Edo people.
