Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has threatened to dethrone any traditional ruler in the state caught selling employment chances meant for the people.
Wike, who issued the threat in Ahoada on Wednesday, said it is shameful that some traditional rulers engage in such despicable act to satisfy their selfish interest.
He also described as unfortunate the attitude of few traditional rulers towards contractors sent to carryout projects in their communities.
“I cannot bring development to this place and criminality will be on the increase. We want companies to come to Ahoada but how will you get employment without companies? Everyday, you cry of unemployment when the few companies that have come, you’ll not allow them to stay. You and your traditional rulers will chase them away with your demands,” he said.
“You even sell chances of employing your own people. Woe betide that traditional ruler that I will catch one day, that is selling what belongs to (his) your people because you want to collect money, I will dethrone that traditional ruler that day,”the Governor added.
The governor had earlier warned those building along the East West road, in the area, so as to get compensated to desist from the act, stating that no amount would be given to anyone as compensation.
