The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised opposition figures Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, and Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of engaging in what he described as deceptive campaign tactics aimed at winning public sympathy.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Wike said he observed the trio going about campaign activities, alleging that some of their actions were merely staged to appeal to ordinary Nigerians.
Taking a swipe at Amaechi, Wike claimed the former minister bought roasted corn by the roadside as part of his campaign optics. He argued that such a gesture was inconsistent with Amaechi’s past lifestyle while serving as minister and governor.
“What Amaechi did was to buy corn — a corn he has never chewed as a minister on the road, a corn he didn’t chew as a governor. You like to deceive the poor,” Wike said.
The FCT minister also criticised Obi, alleging that the former governor only visits Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps during politically significant moments such as birthdays. Wike questioned whether Obi visited any IDP camps while serving as governor.
“It’s like Peter Obi — if he is celebrating his birthday today, he will go to an IDP camp. When he was governor, did he not have birthday parties? Mention one IDP camp he went to?” Wike queried.
Wike’s remarks add to the growing political tension ahead of future elections, as leading political figures intensify public engagements and grassroots outreach efforts.
