Following the myriad of reactions that trailed the demolition of two hotels in Eleme local government area, the state government has revealed that it had nothing against hoteliers operating in the state.
Governor Nyesom Wike said this when the state chapter of the Nigeria hotel association paid him a visit at government house, Port Harcourt today.
He expressed worry that people only applaud government’s decision when it suits them but adjudge them as politically motivated when it doesn’t suit them.
He said the decision to shutdown hotels in the state was not his, but a collective decision of the state security council because some cases of COVID-19 were recorded in hotels.
He said the demolition of Prodest hotel became necessary because the owners didn’t comply with the executive order 7.
Similarly, the chairperson of the association, Mr. Eugene Nwauzi, lauded the governor’s efforts in fighting COVID-19 in the state. He also extended the association’s willingness to comply with all protocols put in place by the state government amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
