The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday joined family members, political associates and supporters to receive the remains of Senator Barry Mpigi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Senator Mpigi passed away in London on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.
A solemn atmosphere enveloped the airport as dignitaries and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects to the late lawmaker. Wike and other prominent figures stood in solidarity with the bereaved family as the casket, draped and escorted with honour, was formally received.
Mpigi was widely regarded as a committed public servant whose contributions to governance and community development earned him respect across political divides.
Details of the burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
