The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, does not constitute a problem for the party in Rivers State.
Yilwatda made the remarks while speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, where he described Wike as a sympathiser of the APC, despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, the APC is comfortable with Wike’s disposition towards the party, noting that his relationship with the APC does not pose any threat to its activities in Rivers State.
The APC chairman also distanced himself from the ongoing political rift between Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, saying the matter falls outside his responsibility as national chairman of the APC since Wike belongs to the PDP.
On the impeachment proceedings reportedly initiated against Governor Fubara, Yilwatda said the development is an internal affair between the governor and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the majority of whom are members of the APC.
He added that the APC has internal mechanisms for resolving such disputes, stressing that the issue is being handled within the party.
