Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo has alleged that the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has dragged him before the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun over his disbandment of the local vigilante group, OSPAC.
Ihunwo, made this known when the “Happy Hour” committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Rivers State, visited him in his office on Thursday.
According to him, the disbandment of OSPAC was not his sole decision but a collective one from the security council of the LGA.
He further stated that he has no hidden agenda in the disbandment of OSPAC but only wants to an outfit that would be accountable to the people in the different communities.
“Wike has petitioned me to the Inspector General of Police for disbanding OSPAC saying that I want to float another security outfit to disturb the LGA, I am going to respond to the petition because I am doing the right thing so I can’t be afraid or shy away from discharging my duties. For record purposes, let me say that in the disbanded OSPAC, we had criminals who went about terrorizing innocent people so we want to fish them out and also sanitize security in the various communities and someone is saying that I should not do it. Maybe, he has forgotten that I am the chief security officer of this LGA,” he said.
