The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected suggestions that the ongoing construction and upgrade of judicial facilities in Abuja could threaten the independence of the judiciary.
Speaking on Thursday after inspecting a number of court infrastructure projects across the capital, Wike said the initiative is focused on strengthening the welfare, safety, and operational efficiency of the judicial arm of government.
He emphasised that judicial independence remains essential to democratic governance, adding that improving accommodation and providing a secure working environment for judges should not be interpreted as interference with their constitutional responsibilities.
According to the minister, supporting the judiciary with modern facilities is part of efforts to ensure it functions effectively and maintains its critical role in the nation’s democracy
