Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected reports suggesting persistent banditry in Abuja, maintaining that the nation’s capital remains secure and that security agencies are actively addressing criminal activities.
Speaking on Monday while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory, Wike noted that although isolated incidents of crime occur, such situations are not unique to Abuja.
He explained that while a few cases may be reported, it is important to also acknowledge the efforts being made to reduce and control crime.
According to him, no city in the world, including those in highly developed countries, is completely free from criminal activities.
Wike, however, insisted that claims of widespread banditry in Abuja are overstated. He added that as a major city, Abuja sometimes attracts individuals who attempt to engage in crimes such as kidnapping and other unlawful acts, but stressed that security agencies are working to keep the situation under control
