Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has condemned the walkout on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu by some women in Rivers State during an empowerment event in Port Harcourt, calling it “disturbing and embarrassing.”
The incident occurred at the Renewed Hope Initiative programme, which aimed to support 500 women. The protesters were reportedly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who is currently at odds with Wike.
Wike, who is currently in China, in a statement through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Lere Olayinka apologized to the First Lady and President Bola Tinubu, describing the act as a direct insult to the presidency. He accused Fubara and his supporters of insincerity in their calls for peace, warning that their actions contradict their words.
Wike stressed that he and his loyalists were not involved and distanced himself from the protest, calling it a “show of shame” unrepresentative of Rivers people.
