Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over the recent controversy surrounding a visit by former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
Wike, speaking on Monday, said Obi had previously shown courtesy by informing him before visiting Rivers State during his tenure as governor, and therefore should extend the same gesture to Governor Okpebholo.
He criticized Obi’s current political activities, accusing him of using populist tactics to mislead Nigerians.
“When I was Governor of Rivers State, Peter Obi informed me before visiting. Governor Okpebholo is right to demand the same respect,” Wike said. “Back then, was Obi serving food? Now he’s serving food to everyone just to deceive Nigerians and claim he wants to serve as President.”
Wike’s remarks come amid growing political tension over Obi’s engagements across states, with some accusing him of bypassing protocol and using social gestures to gain political favor.
