The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence in the preparedness of stakeholders ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention, assuring that the exercise will be peaceful and well-organised.
Speaking during a pre-convention interaction, Wike said all necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a smooth and successful outing.
He noted that organisers had demonstrated a high level of coordination and commitment, adding that the convention would reflect proper planning and unity among party members.
According to him, the level of preparation by various committees shows that the party is ready to deliver a credible and orderly convention. He commended members of the planning and campaign committees for their dedication, describing their efforts as critical to the success of the event.
Wike also acknowledged the role of security agencies, particularly the police, in ensuring the safety of participants. He emphasised that without their involvement and commitment, achieving a seamless convention would be difficult.
On security arrangements, the FCT Minister assured that adequate measures had been put in place to maintain law and order throughout the event. He stressed that the convention would be conducted in line with established standards, dismissing concerns about possible disruptions.
“We will organise our convention the way it should be done. It will be hitch-free,” he said, adding that lessons had been learned from previous political gatherings.
Wike further urged party members and stakeholders to support the committees and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a successful exercise. He reiterated the importance of unity and discipline, noting that the convention is vital to strengthening the party’s democratic processes.
The minister concluded by calling for collective responsibility, expressing optimism that the convention would set a positive example for internal party democracy in Nigeria.
