The Lagos State Police Command has explained why it temporarily suspended its investigation into allegations of sexual assault and murder levelled against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries.
The police said the probe will resume after the conclusion of a separate, higher-level investigation being handled by the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The allegations surfaced earlier this month following widespread public outcry over claims circulating on social media. An anonymous individual, who claimed to be in hiding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, alleged that they were hired by Okafor to carry out murders.
In response to the growing public concern, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti to commence an investigation into the matter.
However, the command clarified that its inquiry was paused to avoid duplication of efforts, as the IGP’s office had taken over the case for a comprehensive and coordinated probe.
The police assured the public that all allegations would be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigations.
