The South-South Youths Initiative has accused factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, of deliberately opposing peace efforts in the state for personal gain.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the National President of the group, Imeabe Saviour Oscar, alleged that Okocha has benefited politically from the ongoing crisis in the state, which led to his emergence as the Rivers State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and as factional APC chairman.
Oscar claimed that Okocha is resisting reconciliation efforts out of fear that political stability would threaten his current positions. He further condemned what he described as Okocha’s inciting statements and accused him of placing personal interests above the welfare of the people of Rivers State.
The group called for Okocha’s immediate resignation from all public and political offices.
