The Presidency has explained the rationale behind the recent dismissal and replacement of the country’s service chiefs, saying the move was aimed at injecting “a new direction” into the armed forces.
Speaking to Saturday PUNCH, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed speculations linking the shake-up to a rumored coup plot.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu acted within his constitutional powers as Commander-in-Chief to effect changes in military leadership.
“Service chiefs can be hired and fired by the President. He is the Commander-in-Chief. He has the power to hire and fire,” Onanuga stated.
The clarification followed Friday’s announcement of sweeping changes across the nation’s military hierarchy.
