Residents in Port Harcourt and surrounding areas are currently experiencing a shortage in electricity supply, following a reduction in power allocation to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) from the national grid.
In a power updated issued on Tuesday, the distribution company attributed the situation to low electricity generation at the national level.
According to PHED, the decline in power supply is largely due to reduced gas availability to thermal power plants, which has significantly affected overall generation capacity.
The company noted that the development has consequently disrupted the distribution of electricity across its network, leading to the current outages being experienced by customers.
PHED acknowledged the hardship caused by the situation and apologized to its customers for the inconvenience. It, however, assured residents of its commitment to efficiently distribute the limited power available while anticipating an improvement in allocation from the national grid.
Customers were urged to remain patient as efforts continue to stabilize power supply in the region.
