The Presidency has attributed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s brief fall during a ceremonial welcome in Ankara, Turkey, to a poorly laid carpet at the venue.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Turkish Presidential Complex as President Tinubu participated in a march-past alongside his host, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
A video circulating online captured the moment the Nigerian leader momentarily lost his footing while walking on a blue carpet, causing him to stumble and fall before security aides quickly assisted him.
According to the Presidency, the fall was caused by the condition of the carpet used during the ceremony. Reacting to the development, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, said the incident did not affect the state visit, noting that President Tinubu proceeded smoothly with the scheduled activities.
