General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has explained why he no longer works with female secretaries, saying the decision was a personal measure to avoid situations that could compromise his spiritual life.
Speaking on Tuesday during his sermon titled “Jonah Must Go” at the ongoing Holy Ghost Congress in Ogun State, Adeboye encouraged Christians to cut off relationships and habits capable of hindering their spiritual growth. He warned against maintaining associations that could fuel immoral thoughts or expose individuals to temptation.
The cleric revealed that after moving permanently to the RCCG campground—where his duties often kept him working late into the night—he decided to stop having female secretaries. According to him, the policy was not discriminatory but a conscious step based on self-awareness and discipline.
“From the moment I got to this campground, when I found myself working late at night, I ceased to have a female secretary. Some people think it is gender discrimination,” he said.
Adeboye explained that the decision was rooted in caution, noting the dangers of being alone with someone of the opposite sex at vulnerable hours.
“I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul. I know the possibility of dangers, being left alone at night with people of the opposite sex,” he stated.
He added that even though his former secretary at Ebute Meta was “a wonderful child of God,” he chose to put strict boundaries in place to safeguard his spiritual walk.
