Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that he avoids visiting Rivers State due to what he described as the mental strain caused by the neglect and vandalism of developmental projects initiated under his leadership.
Speaking, when he appeared on Arise News on Tuesday, Amaechi lamented the abandonment of a new city project in Rivers State, which he said was completed with a 24-hour power supply before being left in ruins. “I don’t go to Rivers State because it gives you mental disorder,” he said.
Amaechi highlighted a string of national infrastructure projects he successfully completed during his tenure, including the Lagos-Ibadan railway, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Kaduna-Abuja railway, and the Kano Inland Dry Port. He added that his approach to governance was based on delivery rather than rhetoric, stating, “Don’t give me an assignment, because I will discharge it responsibly.”
He also shared a personal story about how his family name motivates him to maintain integrity in public service. “If you do something that rubs off on the name Amaechi, it affects all of us,” he quoted his son as saying.
The former minister’s comments come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State and appear to reflect his disappointment with the state’s current trajectory.
