The newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has pledged to implement bold and strategic reforms aimed at strengthening and expanding the ruling party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today shortly after his emergence in Abuja, Yilwatda assured party members of a decisive leadership style rooted in collaboration and calm determination.
“The confidence they have in me is to make sure I take tough decisions but with gentility and teamwork for the collective interest of the party,” he said.
Drawing parallels with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership approach, Yilwatda emphasized that his calm and soft-spoken nature would not diminish his resolve in making hard policy choices.
“Look at the body language of Mr President; soft-talking, calm, gentle, but look at where he is driving the country, taking tough decisions, where people fear to even discuss,” he stated.
Outlining his immediate priorities, Yilwatda said he would focus on fostering unity within the APC and expanding its political reach by attracting governors from opposition parties.
In 2025, the APC gained control of two more states—Akwa Ibom and Delta—after Governors Umo Eno and Sheriff Oborevwori defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), raising the APC’s tally to 23 states.
“We have 23 governors and we are still counting. My job is to bring in more. We would do legwork and bring in more,” Yilwatda declared.
