Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the Port Harcourt Ring Road project — one of the state’s most ambitious infrastructure undertakings.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection tour of the project site in Port Harcourt.
The 62.65-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road, which traverses six local government areas, is gradually regaining momentum after experiencing a slowdown due to funding challenges.
Speaking during the visit to the Eneka Flyover section, Governor Fubara explained that the project had suffered setbacks when the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, withdrew from site due to financial constraints.
“You are aware that this project was — I won’t say abandoned — but somehow, for lack of funds, the contractor withdrew from the site. We have been discussing with them, and they have already moved back to site. I’m here to confirm that,” he said.
The Governor stated that his visit was to assess the level of progress and ensure full commitment from the contractor. He added that discussions between the state government and Julius Berger had resulted in renewed activity on site.
Governor Fubara described the project as a vital investment that would decongest traffic and stimulate economic growth across the state.
“I want to make this promise to our good people of Rivers State — this project that we started, by the special grace of God, we are going to complete it. We owe our people a responsibility to deliver on our commitments, and this project will not be an exception,” he assured.
With work now fully resumed and funding secured, the Rivers State Government has reiterated its resolve to complete the Port Harcourt Ring Road project — a landmark initiative set to transform the city’s transport landscape.
