There seems to be crack in the leadership of the National Union Of Rivers State Students as some executive council members reject the purported endorsement of SDP governorship candidate, Senator Magnus Abe by the national president of the union, Precious Monmom.
In a press conference on Wednesday evening, the National Vice President of NURSS, Chimenem Wali says the action of the president is saddening and a ridicule to the union as he has been known to take unilateral decision on behalf of the union without consulting the leadership.
Wali says at no time did the students’ body endorsed any candidate for the February 25th and March 11th, 2023 general elections. He said anyone can support their preferred candidates but not do so in the name of the union.
“Nobody is telling the President not to support the Senator as both of them are from the same LGA, and probably his major benefactor, but he cannot do so in the name of NURSS.” he said.
He called on the Senate arm of NURSS to look into the matter and avoid bringing disunity to the union. he asked the general public to disregard news of the endorsement of Social Democratic Party Guber candidate, Senator Magnus Abe by the union.
“At this juncture, we are calling on the general public to disregard the charade done today by the Comr. Precious Monmon as he acted as himself not on behalf of the Union.”
The press release was also signed by some officers of the union.
