Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be removed from office in the 2027 general elections, citing public dissatisfaction and policy failures.
Speaking at an event, Amaechi accused successive Nigerian leaders, including the current administration, of neglecting the poor. “No Nigerian leader cares for the poor because they know Nigerians can do nothing to them once they are in power,” he said. “When Nigerians protested, the President responded by increasing the price of fuel.”
Amaechi revealed he confronted President Tinubu directly during a meeting in Yola, telling him, “I will not work for you and I will not vote for you.” He explained his political neutrality in the 2023 elections, distancing himself from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) citing concerns over leadership capacity.
Criticizing the government’s economic policies, the former governor questioned the impact of the removed fuel subsidy. “We were paying N4-5 trillion on fuel subsidy. Now that the subsidy is gone, where is the money? If it had been reinvested in the economy, wouldn’t the average Nigerian feel the impact?” he asked.
Amaechi suggested that while some policies may have merit, the current administration appears more focused on revenue generation than the welfare of citizens.
