The leadership of Senator Magnus Abe political group across the 23 local government areas of Rivers state rose from an extraordinary leadership meeting held today at Freedom House, Port Harcourt, with a strong resolution agreeing with the position of Senator Magnus Abe to work with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS, and continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his effort to better the lots of Nigerians.
Senator Magnus Abe had weeks ago declared that he had reconciled his differences with the FCT Minister and joined the former Governor of Rivers State to the thanksgiving service of the Rivers APC Caretaker Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, a political realignment that created waves and reverberated across the state. The move has remained a prime talking point in political discourse in Rivers State both new and traditional media.
If there was any doubt as to whether Abe made unilateral political move or not, the doubt withered away today when the leadership of the Abe group in the 23 LGAs of Rivers State gathered at Freedom House and unanimously thundered their acceptance of the political direction of Senator Abe to work with the Minister of the FCT, pledging their unflagging support unalloyed loyalty to the political direction of Abe.
Senator Wilson Ake, who gave the opening remarks at the leadership meeting, expressed the faith that Abe’s decision was in the best interest of the group, reason the leadership gathered to affirm the decision as theirs.
Speaking at the well-attended leadership meeting, Abe said having supported President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the beginning when it was difficult for people to identify with him, his group will continue to support the President to overcome the economic and security challenges the country facing.
Abe stressed that his group cannot sincerely support the President and at the same time be at loggerheads with the Hon Minister of the FCT chosen by President Tinubu to work with him.
He applauded the FCT Minister for his pivotal role in ensuring the victory of Tinubu in Rivers State. “It would have been difficult to win Rivers state for Tinubu without the role that former Governor Wike played”, he started.
Senator Abe also commended the Hon Minister for his mature disposition that made reconciliation possible, unlike others who get stuck in the past and pay only lip service to reconciliation.
Concerning the issues in Rivers State, Senator Abe said that the 27 Assembly members having defected to APC must be embraced and supported by all APC members in the state, stating that he openly defected from PDP to APC on the floor of the Senate and never lost his seat.
The position to reconcile and work with former Governor Wike was put to vote and all present agreed and voted to with the FCT Minister as they continue to support President Tinubu.
