Widow of late Eze Aniele Orlu Oriebe and her daughter Josephine Orlu have accused the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital of negligence which they claim resulted in the death of their father, the Paramount Ruler of Akpor Kingdom His Royal Majesty, Eze Aniele Orlu Oriebe.
The cause of death of the late paramount ruler has been generating controversy between the Rivers State Government and the Orlu Rumuadobo family in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The state government had announced that the late monarch died of COVID-19, while the family has condemned the statement, maintaining that the late patriarch died of injuries sustained from an accident he was involved in a few weeks ago.
Elder Kingsley Kinika Orlu, the brother of the deceased who spoke on behalf of the family yesterday said, the claims by the state government are false. He also noted that he was made to sign a report by the Rivers State Government that his brother, died of the dreaded disease.
He further said that it is a taboo for a traditional ruler of the community to be buried outside his kingdom. This is in addition tot he fact that all the tests conducted on late Eze Oriebe did not show signs of COVID-19.
He, therefore, pleaded with the state government to release the body so that the paramount ruler can be given a befitting burial.
