The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested the founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, for allegedly masterminding multiple shipments of illicit drugs into Nigeria.
Director, Media & Advocacy of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi made this known in a statement.
He said peratives apprehended the cleric on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church on Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos. NDLEA officers, who had trailed him for months, reportedly waited until the conclusion of the evening service before moving in.
Olasele had been on the run since June after twice evading arrest and fleeing to Ghana. His arrest follows the seizure of two consignments of “Ghana Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, linked to him. The first haul of 200kg was intercepted at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, 2025, while another 700kg was recovered from his delivery van on July 6, 2025.
In a confessional statement, the pastor admitted smuggling the consignments through waterways from Ghana and confirmed he went into hiding in the West African country after evading capture.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their vigilance and urged them to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control.
The arrest came amid nationwide raids that saw the recovery of 3,476kg of Colorado, Loud, and Skunk strains of cannabis, as well as 645,906 opioid pills in Nasarawa, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, and Edo states.
