The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has commenced a sensitization campaign in Lagos to prepare students, parents, and schools for the full transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Speaking during the launch, the Head of the National Office of WAEC in Nigeria, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, assured candidates of the Council’s readiness for the digital shift. “Whether a candidate is offshore or onshore, in the UK or anywhere, as long as they are registered, they will write this exam. CBT is the way to go—it’s the future of exams,” he stated.
Addressing concerns about subject modifications, Dr. Dangut clarified that the changes were largely nominal. “Some subjects have been modified in name only. The content, syllabus, and questions remain the same. Let nobody be disturbed,” he emphasized.
Also speaking at the event, WAEC’s Deputy Director of Finance and Expenditure, Alhaja Sidikat Malik, underscored the benefits of the digital format, noting that it would minimize examination malpractice, enhance efficiency, and boost candidates’ performance. “Parents should be reassured—all modalities are in place, and the federal government fully supports this initiative,” she said.
The ongoing sensitization campaign will extend across all regions of Nigeria to ensure students, including those in remote areas, are adequately prepared for the upcoming computer-based examinations.
