The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been cancelled.
In a statement released via its official X handle on Sunday, WAEC described the reports as “false and mischievous,” urging the public to disregard them.
The Council clarified that no such cancellation was made in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, as alleged. It noted that the rumour falsely claimed that the examination was cancelled due to widespread malpractice, coordinated leakage of question papers, and unauthorised digital dissemination of exam materials.
WAEC stated, “The attention of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has been drawn to a press statement alleging the cancellation of all the papers written during the just concluded WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025.”
The Council emphasized that the reports are baseless and assured stakeholders of the integrity of the 2025 examination.
