The Rivers State Government has reacted to a circular from The West African Examinations Council, which delisted 35 secondary schools in the state, for participating in exam malpractice.
The State Commissioner for Education, Kaniye Ebeku while reacting to the development today, said principals of the affected schools have been banned from participating in all exams conducted by WAEC.
Ebeku, stated that the affected principals were invited and informed of the government’s decision, noting that the state government has zero tolerance for exam malpractice.
According to him, the principals of the 14 government schools have been demoted while the opertional licenses of the affected private schools have been withdrawn.
He noted that the state government had in the past punished erring teachers, and that WAEC is aware that the state Ministry of Education, frowns at exam malpractice.
