The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has insisted that it got the 2023 updated voters register for the Oct. 5th Local Government Elections from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
This was shortly after INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo denied releasing the register to RSIEC, stating that it is adhering to a court order restraining it from doing so.
According to him, RSIEC had approached INEC for the register, and that the process was still ongoing before the court order.
However, RSIEC Commissioner in charge of Civic Education, Tamunotonye Tobins faulted the claims by INEC. He maintained that it got the register from INEC before the court order.
Tobins also said RSIEC is ready to challenge INEC on the matter.
