Controversial social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has criticized Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid for flaunting their recent luxury car purchases despite the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
In a viral video posted online, VeryDarkMan questioned the timing and sensitivity of the artistes’ extravagant spending, citing recent reports that Burna Boy acquired a car worth ₦3.5 billion while Davido also purchased a vehicle valued at over ₦1 billion.
“Don’t you people read the room?” he asked, urging the artistes to consider the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. While acknowledging that the musicians are not public office holders, he challenged their sense of responsibility to the country and their fans.
Directing specific criticism at Davido, whom he described as a personal associate, VeryDarkMan questioned the singer’s impact in his native Osun State.
“What can you beat your chest to say you have done for the people of Osun? You’ve benefited from Nigeria and your fans—what can they say they’ve benefited from you?” he asked.
He also pointed out that Davido’s last known major engagement with Osun State was during his uncle’s gubernatorial campaign, suggesting that the singer has since disengaged from community development efforts.
The video has sparked widespread reactions online, with many weighing in on the role of celebrities in addressing national issues.
