The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgement on the suit filed by the Rivers State Government on the collection of Value Added Tax, VAT, on May 6, 2022.

The Rivers State Government had dragged the matter to the Supreme Court after a Court of Appeal had ordered that status quo be maintained in the matter.

The state government in its appeal is praying the Apex court to order that the substantive appeal by the Federal Inland Revenue Service and other processes be heard and determined by a new panel of the Court of Appeal.

A Federal High Court (FHC), sitting in Port Harcourt had on August 10, 2021 ruled that Rivers State and the Federal Government should collect VAT in the state.
