The University of Lagos (UNILAG) community has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of Balogun Damilola, President of the Faculty of Education.
According to DailyPost, Damilola, fondly called Ayanfe Eledumare, reportedly lost his life on Saturday, September 20, 2025, after being swept away by strong waves during a beach outing in Lagos.
Eyewitnesses said he was attempting a backflip while recording a video near the shoreline when the tide suddenly pulled him into the sea. Despite rescue efforts, his body was not recovered until the next morning at Museyo Beach, Ibeju-Lekki, about two kilometres from the spot of the incident.
His passing has sparked widespread grief among students and friends, many of whom have taken to social media to share memories of his lively personality and leadership potential.
Damilola had only recently assumed office as Faculty President, having served as Vice President the previous year.
Paying tribute on X, a close associate and former roommate, identified as Doyindoski, wrote: “He was my roommate. Always brought Lacoco and the likes to the room. A real vibe, man. And bro just became the President of his faculty… RIP Balogun Damilola.
