The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Uzodinma Nwafor, on Thursday, proclaimed the first session of the 10th Etche Legislative Assembly, following the inauguration of 19 members-elect of the local government legislature by the Clerk.
Dr. Nwafor, who maintained neutrality in the process that led to the election of the Assembly’s principal officers, said his interest lay in how the executive and the legislature could work in synergy to fulfil shared responsibilities to the people.
The Chairman urged the legislators to bring their unique value and perspective to bear in the debates of issues and policies in the assembly, noting that government would only achieve extraordinary results through collective efforts and cooperation.
He charged members of the 10th Assembly to meet and outperform the record set by the expired Assembly in legislative activities.
He then appealed to the lawmakers to partner with his administration to enhance security, good governance and improved living standards for the people.
At the inauguration of the 10th Assembly, Clerk of the House, Ebele Laleoka, commenced the session with a rollcall of nomination of candidates for the Office of the Leader, Deputy Leader and Chief Whip respectively.
At the end of the nominations, Hon. Chibuzor Nwalewe was elected as Leader of the House, Hon. Chigbu Bethel as Deputy Leader and Hon. Beauty Nwiyi as Chief Whip.
Upon assumption of duty as Leader, Rt. Hon. Chibuzor Nwalewe said members’ elections were a testament to avowed commitment to sustaining and upholding democratic values and principles through effective policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.
The Leader thanked the Etche Council Chairman for according respect to the House and maintaining neutrality in the internal affairs of the Assembly.
He assured of the House commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.
