Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday commenced a three-day warning strike to protest unpaid salaries, allowances, and deteriorating working conditions. The action follows the expiration of a three-week ultimatum earlier issued to the government.
The strike has paralyzed activities in government hospitals across Abuja, including those in Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama, Kubwa, Zuba, Kwali, Abaji, and Nyanya.
Dr. Ebong, President of the FCT chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors, criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and other officials for neglecting healthcare facilities and workers’ welfare.
While acknowledging Wike’s focus on road infrastructure, Ebong decried the poor state of public health institutions in the nation’s capital. He urged Wike and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to utilize these hospitals to experience firsthand the challenges faced by health workers and patients.
