The United States House Appropriations Committee has restated Washington’s commitment to confronting religious persecution around the world, with particular attention to Nigeria. The committee made the declaration in a post shared on its official X account on Wednesday.
“America will not look away as innocent lives are stolen,” the statement read. It added that, on the direction of President Donald Trump, a team of US appropriators undertook an on-the-ground assessment mission in Nigeria to support the development of a report on Christian persecution and shape future policy actions.
According to the committee, religious freedom and atrocity response remain key components of its National Security and Resilience Program (NSRP) bill.
The reaffirmation follows a recent visit by a US delegation to Nigeria. On Sunday, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu confirmed he had hosted the group as part of ongoing security consultations between both countries.
