The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has commissioned the first COVID-19 testing centre in the state since the outbreak of the virus. It also said, they can now test, isolate and manage patients for COVID-19.
Chief Medical director of UPTH, Henry Ugbomah made this known to journalists yesterday, during a tour of the treatment centre in the Hospital’s premises. The CMD who said the facility could be expanded if index cases in the state increases, equally noted that the centre has well qualified personnel to manage COVID-19 patients.
Speaking at the commissioning of the facility, head of the respiratory and infectious disease control unit Datonye Alasia equally stated that the facility will be of tremendous help to the state. This has created more avenue for testing and treatment so the state does not get overwhelmed, he noted.
The facility which was commissioned by the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Simini Alayi, is a two-storey building with 14 bed spaces and three ventilators.
