The Acting Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja), Professor Lar Patricia Manko, has denied allegations of land grabbing leveled against the institution by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Manko stated that the 11,000 hectares of land in question was legitimately allocated to the university by the Federal Government and described it as a “legacy asset.”
While acknowledging the Minister’s authority as the “landlord” of the FCT, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that land is critical to the university’s future expansion, research, and development plans. “University land can never be too much,” she said, noting that the institution has extensive plans for utilizing the property.
