The management of the University of Port Harcourt has debunked viral online news that it has approved the school facility for the Atiku Campaign Council. This was contained in a press release by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Sam Kpenu on Wednesday.
Following the revocation by the Rivers State Government of the approval earlier granted to the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council to use the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for its presidential rally. There was an online report credited to one Mr Humble Lion that the Atiku’s campaign rally would now hold at Uniport.
However, the management through the University Public Relations Officer, Dr Sam Kpenu says the report is not true. Sam stated that the management has not authorized any political rallies in the school.
“The management has not authorized any political campaign rally at the university, the university is not a political ground for political campaign,” he said.
Dr Sam Kpenu says the school is not contemplating releasing its facility to the Atiku Campaign Council and called on the public to discountenance the rumour as it is aimed at tarnishing the towering reputation of the University as it is simply a figment of the imagination of the author. Meanwhile, the issue has been reported to law enforcement agencies for appropriate action.
