Lecturers at the University of Port Harcourt on Tuesday joined their counterparts across the country in protesting the Federal Government’s failure to implement the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement.
Chairman of ASUU at UniPort, Professor Omeh Ngwoke, said the non-implementation of the agreement has forced many lecturers to leave Nigeria in search of better opportunities, accusing the government of paying lip service to the education sector.
Ngwoke appealed to stakeholders to intervene, stressing that several attempts by the renegotiation committee to engage the government have not produced any meaningful results.
Meanwhile, some UniPort students expressed concern over the possibility of another strike. They urged the Federal Government to return to the negotiation table immediately, saying they do not want their academic programmes extended beyond the normal duration.
