The Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday, March 17, 2025.
During the visit, Ohuabunwa congratulated Wike on his appointment and commended his performance as FCT Minister. “We are here to express our profound admiration for your outstanding service and to celebrate your remarkable achievements,” he said.
Highlighting Wike’s contributions to the university, the Pro-Chancellor acknowledged his role in establishing the Faculty of Law, constructing its building, and developing a world-class Convocation Arena. He described these as legacy projects reflecting the Minister’s commitment to his alma mater.
“You have consistently recognized and supported the institution that provided you with a platform for success,” Ohuabunwa stated, praising Wike as a distinguished alumnus,” he added.
The Council expressed interest in strengthening ties between the university and the FCT, seeking the Minister’s support for the establishment of a Centre of Leadership Studies in Abuja. Ohuabunwa emphasized that Wike’s political journey warranted academic research and that the proposed center would be a valuable addition.
Additionally, the council sought the Minister’s assistance in equipping the Convocation Arena with multimedia facilities as part of a ₦10 billion endowment drive to mark the university’s 50th anniversary.
