Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, Enefaa Georgewill has called on those commending Hon. Edison Ehie for empowering his constituents with cars and cash prizes to tell him that Rivers State is number one on the unemployment index in Nigeria.

Enefaa, in a statement said the job of a lawmaker is to make and amend laws, checkmate other tiers of government, monitor compliance by companies and agencies amongst others.

He wondered why people are applauding a lawmaker under whose watch unemployment have risen to an all time high simply because he bought cars for party members in his constituency.

His statement reads,

WHAT IS THE JOB OF A LAWMAKER?

Make law, Amend law, Aggregate the views of his  constituents and present same in the form of a bill or proposed in a budget.

Oversight function. Checkmate other tier of government, especially the Executive led by the President or Governor. Monitor Compliance by Companies and Agencies.

How can you applaud a Lawmaker under whose watch, the Governor have a filled day and unemployment have risen to all time high merely because he shared money and Cars to party members in his constituency? What if the lawmaker connive with the Governor to pauperized the people and give a token of his own share of the loot to some cronies just to appear good before his people. What if he connives with the Companies in his constituent to shortchange his people, only to turnaround to share a part of his share? What if he is involved in illegal trade? What if???

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly should invite the Rivers State Governor, to explain to Rivers people why there is this level of unemployment, insecurity, zero social empowerment, non payment of bursary/scholarship,non promotion of civil servants, non payment of demonstration teachers, etc.

If they can’t do the above, no amount of charity can exonerate any of them from blame. If the Lawmakers have done their job properly, the Rivers State Government would have rolled out several industries for employment, bursary/Scholarship and empowerment scheme.

As you hail my friend- The Deputy Speaker, don’t forget to tell him our State is number one on the unemployment index in Nigeria.

This current Assembly in Rivers State failed!1l
