The United Nations has condemned the ongoing killings in Benue State and called on the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Farhan Haq, disclosed this during a media briefing, stating that the global body is closely monitoring the situation.
“The Secretary-General condemns the killing of innocent civilians, including in Nigeria, and we hope that those responsible for this violence will be found and apprehended,” Haq said.
The UN’s statement comes amid mounting public outrage over the spate of violent attacks and the federal government’s apparent failure to contain the crisis in the region.
