The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has cautioned RCCE, the contractor handling the Eleme section of the East–West Road, to ensure the first phase of construction is completed and delivered to the federal government by December 2025.

Umahi gave the directive in Port Harcourt on Monday during an inspection of ongoing federal projects in Rivers State. He stressed that only approved quality materials must be used on the Port Harcourt-bound carriageway of the Eleme Road.

The Minister further ordered the company to revisit sections of the road requiring additional asphalt to bring them up to standard.

Speaking with journalists at the project site, the South-South Comptroller of Works, Tarilade Enweareama, confirmed that the ministry was addressing issues responsible for the slow pace of work.
