Nigeria’s Former minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is set to become the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, as the United States has agreed to support her.

The office of the  United States Trade Representatives disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

It said, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala brings a wealth of knowledge in economics and international diplomacy from her 25 years with the World Bank and two terms as Nigerian Finance Minister.

With the recent development, Okonjo-Iweala is set to lead the WTO, as her main competitor, South Korea’s Trade minister, Yoo Myung Hee had announced her withdrawal from the race.
