A two-year-old girl trafficked from Abuja to Aba has been rescued by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS). The child was reportedly sold by the suspect for ₦100,000.
The arrest was carried out following an intelligence-led operation by DSS personnel, which led to the apprehension of the suspect and the subsequent handover of the case to NAPTIP for further investigation and prosecution.
In a statement released by the agency, NAPTIP confirmed that the child is currently in their protective custody and receiving appropriate care. The agency is now calling on the biological parents or any relatives of the rescued girl to urgently contact its offices to assist in the identification and reunification process.
NAPTIP reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking and child exploitation in Nigeria, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that may indicate trafficking or abuse.
