PORT HARCOURT — Two people were killed on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in a violent clash between suspected members of rival cult groups in the Mile 1 and Mile 3 Diobu areas of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The confrontation, reportedly between members of the Lamidian and Virus factions of the Deygbam cult group, was said to be a territorial dispute.

According to eyewitnesses, the first attack occurred in the morning at the Oduneze lane area of Mile 3, where gunmen believed to be from one faction ambushed and shot a member of the opposing group. In what appeared to be a retaliatory move, associates of the slain individual later attacked a rival gang member, identified only as “Ishi,” at the Sagana/Railway axis of Mile 1, hacking him to death with machetes.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
