The Federal Government of Nigeria, has said that the ban on Twitter would be lifted if the platform can be used responsibly.
Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, disclosed this during a meeting with some foreigners in Abuja on Monday.
He explained that the platform was not suspended because it was threatening the country, but the ban was placed to stop them from being used as an avenue to encourage criminalities.
“We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing; why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities,” he said.
“There is no definite timeline for the ban to be lifted. The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that really has to be it,” he added.
